  • Set up the Queer Short Film Fund in 2015

  • Became program manager for Panorama in 2019 and at the same time a member of the Berlinale Series Selection Committee

Anne Ballschmieter

Head of FIRST STEPS Award – The German award for young talent, born in 1985, lives in Ostfriesland, born in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany

  • Studied communication science, English/American studies (B.A) at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University, Greifswald, and media studies (M.A.) at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and the University of Plymouth, England

  • There she took part in various film projects and worked as a research assistant for the Children’s Film University
  • Was part of the organizational team of the International Student Film Festival sehsüchte, where she was responsible for the script award in addition to supporting the jury and the film
  • Has been working for FIRST STEPS since 2011. Initially working in film and nominee support, she ultimately shared the management of FIRST STEPS as program manager together with artistic director Andrea Hohnen

  • Between 2012 and 2016 worked for the Berlin International Film Festival in the Communication & Marketing department of the European Film Market
  • Since 2020 she has been in charge of FIRST STEPS together with Jennifer Stahl

Pola Beck

Director, born in 1982, lives in Berlin

  • Wanted to make films since she was 13
  • She made her first “real film” in 2003 at the European Film College in Denmark
  • Studied directing at the Babelsberg Film University from 2005-2011
  • Her successful series DRUCK has over 145 million clicks and fans worldwide
  • She enjoys making series as much as films
  • Pola usually tells intuitively from a female perspective and deals with topics such as love, family, types of relationships and how people grow from and in crisis situations

Gesine Mannheimer

Founder and managing director of JETZT & MORGEN and AG Autovermietung, born in 1983, lives in Berlin

  • Managing director of the agency JETZT & MORGEN, which specializes in campaign work for cinema releases, in particular the activation of target groups beyond the classic cinema-goers: inside
  • Her work focuses on themed and educational campaigns accompanying political and social film releases, addressing book fans about literary adaptations and the conception of release strategies and advice on releases
  • JETZT & MORGEN supervised films such as SYSTEMSPRENGER, LIEBER THOMAS, DIE UNBEUGSAMEN, RABIYE KURNAZ GEGEN GEORGE W. BUSH, TÁR and SONNE UND BETON
  • Managing Director of AG distribution – association of independent film distributors and represents the interests of 38 independent film distributors in Germany

Oliver Baumgarten

Author and film curator, born in 1971, lives near Lüneburg

  • Has worked as a freelance author, curator and cultural manager in the international film business for 25 years
  • In addition to his own projects, he was the artistic director of the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival
  • Lecturer at film schools
  • Publishes on current and historical film topics
  • Working on his screenplay debut

Melika Gothe | Jury moderation

Culture manager, moderator and film educator, born in 1990, lives in Berlin and Hanover
 
 
  • Section manager of the Berlinale section Generation
  • Also responsible for film education and cultural participation in other projects
  • Studied film studies, French and cultural mediation in Mainz, Dijon, Hildesheim and Marseille
  • Has always loved festival work because it’s where audiences and artists come together

Clara Winter | JUNGER FILM moderation

Artist and filmmaker, born in 1989, lives in Berlin and Mexico City

  • Studied free art in Kassel and at the Dutch Art Institute

  • Has been working with Miiel Ferraéz on short films, video installations and group projects since 2014, together they won “Film of the Year” at FiSH 2016 and the “Deutscher Kurzfilmpreis” 2019
