What is the HanseFiSH?
HanseFiSH is the Northern European answer to the MTV Video Music Awards.
Together with Hanse Sail, the FiSH Film Festival Rostock presents international music videos from the Baltic Sea region on August 7, 2025. Filmmakers and musicians from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland are invited to submit their music videos for the Northern European music video competition. The best video from each country earns a spot in the official selection.
Germany’s entry is announced during the FiSH Film Festival. The winners PopFiSH, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s statewide music video competition, get a chance to compete in the HanseFiSH. For 2025, FRAUPAUL secured their spot in the competition with the video “Burnout” by Ashe Schaub.
What is the Hanse Sail?
From August 7 to 10, 2025, the Hanse Sail Rostock is the largest annual traditional sailing event in the world. The event offers a full program at various event areas throughout Rostock and unique maritime experiences around the traditional and tall ships and the maritime cosmos.
Who can participate?
Filmmakers, bands and musicians from Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland can submit their music videos via our website. The only requirement: The videos must not be older than two years (completed after January 2023).
We look forward to videos that show a fair, modern image of social categories such as gender, origin or age. Sexualized or racialized insults end up in the garbage can instead of on the screen!
Where and when does the competition take place?
The Hanse FiSH will take place during the Hanse Sail 2025. The selected finalists will be presented to the public on the beautiful beach of Warnmünde in the Wal Bar. After all, where better to enjoy the summer than in a hammock right on the beach! Feet in the sand, a cold drink in your hand and the best international music videos on big screen!
What can you win?
You can win a performance at the next Hanse Sail, prize money and of course the “HanseFiSH”!
