The Youth Cinema Network includes 26 youth film festivals, 18 organizations and freelancers from 5 continents.

They have joined together to form the YCN network to share knowledge, best practices and information in terms of film and media education and youth film festivals. The YCN advocates for young filmmaking internationally by encouraging intercultural dialogue, developing international strategies, and showcasing local best practices.

More than just a festival – How to empower with festival work

Based on the “YouthFestivalNetwork” project, this panel will address the following questions: How can young people shape their festival and how can they be empowered to do so? What workshops and participation formats are available in the network and what methods are used to implement them? What experience does the network have with innovative, interactive event formats to reach new, young target groups?

AI in film and film education

The first part of this panel will focus on the current, practical use of AI tools. There will be impulses from the YCN:

  • „How to create visuals for festivals with AI“ by Eivind Nordengen (Amandus Filmfestival, Norway)
  • „ChatGPT and Firefly for preproduction and storyboards“ by Leomary Rodriguez (freelance film teacher, USA)
  • „AI-assisted decision making“ by Godfrey Slavius (International Youth Media Summit, Tanzania)

The second part is designed as a lab. Based on the previous conference content and results, the participants define objectives for cooperation projects and use AI in dialog to reach their goals. This part will be accompanied by Alexander Rihl, M.A. (Institute of Political Sciences and Communications, University of Greifswald).
